The COOL Nordic Cargo Hub at Helsinki airport is Europe’s most advanced air cargo terminal for robotics and intelligent warehouse automation. There are large dedicated areas for general cargo, perishables and pharmaceuticals. Experts monitor the journey of every plane and truck, and the temperature of every piece of sensitive cargo.

General cargo, pharmaceuticals and perishables have dedicated areas under constant monitoring.
An automated storage system (AS/RS) for shipments ensures optimal efficiency.
The design and construction of the COOL hub won a sustainability rating of ‘very good’.
The COOL Control Center monitors data from digital temperature sensors and is manned by on-site experts 24/7.
31,000 M2 OF TERMINAL CAPACITY
The capacity of our COOL Nordic Cargo Hub allows Finnair Cargo to carry 350 thousand tons of cargo every year and there’s room to expand by 10,000 m2 in the future to meet rising demand. Pharmaceuticals and perishables each have 3000 m2 of dedicated temperature-controlled space and they can be transported to aircraft stands only 30 minutes before departure.
700 000 kg OF CARGO CARRIED EVERY DAY
Our new cargo terminal allows us to meet the demands for air cargo and support the extra capacity provided by our growing fleet of A350 wide-body aircraft. Every day we ship around 100,000 kg of seafood, mostly to Asia, and with that market set to continue booming there will be even more fish to handle in the future.
580 ULD STORAGE PLACES
Robotics, data monitoring and expert attention to detail are the cornerstones of the new COOL hub, alongside the outstanding capacity of the building. There are 580 unit load device (ULD) storage places in the terminal and the automated system is designed to operate without lights to reduce energy costs and improve sustainability.
1,200 SOLAR PANELS ON THE ROOF
COOL is one of the first cargo hubs in the world to be rated ‘very good’ by the leading building sustainability assessor, BREEAM. The rating took into account the 1,200 solar panels on the roof providing 10% of the building’s energy consumption and the energy-efficient design and operational model, including the automated forklift guidance system and truck yard management.
