In 2018 Finnair Cargo opened one of the most sophisticated and modern air cargo terminals in the industry. Dedicated truck docks ensure that pharmaceuticals are handled correctly and stored at the right temperatures from the moment of arrival.

CEIV PHARMA CERTIFICATION

As the first airline in the world to be awarded IATA’s CEIV pharma certification it means that the correct handling, storage and transport of pharma is in Finnair Cargo’s DNA. Temperature sensors send live data to the Control Center and staff perform pharma checks on foot.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED FACILITIES

Three distinct temperature zones for pharma cover a total of 3,000 m². 25 temperature monitors send live data from the refrigerated, room-temperature and freezer zones and there is a strict process in the unlikely event of a temperature deviation.

ACTIVE AND PASSIVE CONTAINERS

Finnair Cargo offers active and passive containers for pharma customers. There is a specific acceptance process for active containers and dedicated staff who are trained in the checking, maintenance and handling of containers.

In the Control Center, experts are at work day and night. Finnair Cargo’s COOL terminal uses the latest digital technologies and human expertise to make sure everything goes smoothly.

MAJOR GREEN MILESTONES

Finnair was the first airline in Europe to begin operating the next-generation fuel-efficient Airbus A350 aircraft. Pilots are able to adjust the temperature in the hold and shippers can use loggers to review temperatures.

GREEN AIR CARGO TERMINAL

Because Helsinki is uncongested, pharma leaves the COOL terminal for a flight just 30 minutes before departure. This guarantees that shipments are not adversely exposed to outside temperature variations.
